Vaults are required. You must say what you have bought and how much you have spent. You must say how you got all of your school-required belongings, whether bought or obtained somehow. You cannot RP with your character having something that isn't here. You don't have to RP buying anything. For an adult or flunk out, all you have to have is a wand. For a kid, nothing. Cannons automatically start out with whatever they have in the books. I understand that at the beginning you may go over how many galleons you have, but that just means you can't buy anything else until you regain those galleons. Your galleons appear on the left of each of your posts, you gain some buy posting, winning galleons or doing good things that Staff reward you. You may also lose galleons.
This is the suggestion of how you organize your vault (no double posting, just modify to add any purchases):
Bought:
Wand- x galleons
Snowy Owl- x galleons
School Robes- x galleons
Sold:
Cleansweep- x galleons
Total Spent- x galleons
I am currently using my older brother's cauldron and school books. My dad gave me a Cleansweep for my birthday, but I turned out to be a horrible Quidditch player.
